XPeng Deepens Local Presence in Europe

Continued recognition in the European market is reinforcing XPeng’s globalization push. In the first half of 2026, XPeng remained the top-selling Chinese electric-vehicle brand in France. In July, the XPeng MONA L03, launched worldwide in Munich, drew more than 10,000 orders in Europe within just three months.

On the local R&D side, XPeng’s European R&D center has been working on regulatory certification, language and interface localization, chassis tuning, charging-network planning and assisted-driving testing to adapt products to European driving habits and road conditions.

In local manufacturing, XPeng Group began local production at the Magna plant in Graz, Austria, in the third quarter of 2025. The G9L is the fourth model produced in Europe, built simultaneously at XPeng’s Guangzhou plant in China and the Graz facility in Austria, a setup the company says supports stable delivery of new models in the European market.

On industry cooperation, XPeng counts Bosch and Dassault among its European supply-chain partners, and during the Paris show, XPeng Group signed a strategic framework agreement with Michelin. XPeng has also carried out deep technical cooperation with the Volkswagen Group, extending from electronic and electrical architecture to joint vehicle development. At the event, XPeng formally introduced “XPENG AI ENGINEERING,” opening its vehicle platform, modular technologies and full toolchain to new-energy-vehicle partners worldwide, offering one-stop technical solutions spanning R&D, production and after-sales support. Beyond smart EVs, XPeng’s physical AI ecosystem is also open to outside cooperation, covering areas such as Robotaxi, its Turing AI chip and physical-world foundation models; XPeng said its Robotaxi business is in talks with a leading European mobility platform.

Highlights From the XPeng G9L Europe Launch

Built for the global market, the XPeng G9L is designed around a “one car, three purposes” concept intended to serve business travel, family life and outdoor exploration. Developed from the outset for global markets, the model underwent three years of development and completed a cumulative 6.74 million kilometers of road testing across 26 countries and regions.

Cabin Comfort and Family-Friendly Features

For business travel, the G9L is built to deliver executive-level comfort through its technology. A body longer than 5.1 meters and a 3.1-meter wheelbase give the SUV a commanding flagship stance, while DLP pixel headlights, a welcome light carpet, power doors and retractable power side steps add a sense of ceremony to entering and exiting the vehicle. The driver’s seat and the front passenger’s zero-gravity seat both use full-body AI-adaptive design that actively adjusts to different users’ body shapes and seating postures, paired with RNC active noise cancellation and multiple layers of sound insulation for a quiet, comfortable cabin.

For family use, the G9L offers generous space and rich equipment. A wheelbase-to-length ratio of 0.605 maximizes cabin space, giving every passenger ample head, shoulder and knee room. A 12.5-liter dual-door, dual-zone onboard refrigerator, a 21.4-inch 3K entertainment screen and a 23-speaker sound system enrich family trips, while a child seat built with baby-grade safety materials, combined with a 6D anti-motion-sickness design, makes family travel more comfortable and reassuring.

Chassis, Performance and Charging

For outdoor use, the G9L relies on a flagship-level chassis and strong performance to handle varied road conditions. The SUV uses an all-aluminum suspension architecture, dual-chamber air suspension and DCC adaptive dampers, combined with a maximum ground clearance of 216 millimeters and a wading depth of 700 millimeters, balancing off-road capability with ride comfort. An active rear-wheel steering system lets the more-than-5.1-meter body turn in a radius of just 5.5 meters, making it easier to navigate narrow streets and parking lots in Europe’s older city centers. XPeng also cites a 0-100 km/h acceleration time of 4.9 seconds, a 100-0 km/h braking distance of 35.1 meters and a moose-test result above 80 km/h as further evidence of the flagship SUV’s handling.

For long-distance travel, XPeng says its latest electric powertrain technology improves efficiency. The new model uses an 800V high-voltage platform and 5C supercharging technology, cutting charging time from 10 percent to 80 percent to as little as 11.7 minutes and reducing waiting time on long trips, while a 6kW V2L external-discharge function extends the vehicle’s use to scenarios such as outdoor camping.

Smart Features and Safety

In daily use, the G9L folds technology into everyday travel. A smart parking function is designed to help in narrow urban roads and complex parking environments, while the vehicle, built for European user habits, deeply integrates Google Maps, Google Play and other local digital services, offering more than 500 native apps to support both business and family use.

XPeng describes safety as “the biggest luxury,” and says the G9L is built around a three-layer flagship safety system covering passive safety, active safety and aviation-grade safety redundancy. The vehicle was designed to meet the requirements of the world’s four major safety-rating systems and has completed a cumulative 192 crash tests. It uses a 16,000-tonne front-and-rear integrated die-cast body structure, is equipped with up to 10 airbags, and uses an EIS battery safety chip to reinforce battery protection. On active safety, AEB automatic emergency braking can operate at speeds up to 150 km/h, complemented by passive safety functions such as driver-incapacitation assist, further strengthening protection in complex scenarios. The vehicle also carries an aviation-grade safety redundancy design, derived from flying-car technology, that provides backup protection across four key systems: braking, drive, communication and unlocking.

XPeng NGP’s Public Autonomous Driving Trial in Paris

During the Paris show, the official Autonomous Lab held a public road event for advanced assisted-driving systems, and XPeng and Tesla ended up as the only two automakers taking part, demonstrating their systems on real city streets in Paris. It was also the first large-scale public experience of XPeng’s NGP system in Europe, with more than 400 global media outlets registering to attend before the event even began.

Ahead of the show, XPeng chairman He Xiaopeng personally tried XPeng’s NGP system on Paris’s well-known Arc de Triomphe roundabout, a junction connecting 12 avenues with dense traffic and complex conditions that place high demands on a driving system’s environmental perception and decision-making. XPeng NGP navigated the junction successfully, with He Xiaopeng saying it performed like a “seasoned European driver.”

From Germany and the Netherlands to France, XPeng said it is continuing to validate the global generalization of its second-generation VLA model. In July this year, XPeng NGP completed localized acceptance testing in Germany, and in September, reporters from China’s Xinhua News Agency conducted a side-by-side real-world test of XPeng NGP and Tesla FSD in Amsterdam, with both systems performing smoothly overall and XPeng showing precise spatial judgment and efficient handling in some complex scenarios. The public road trial at the Paris show further demonstrated XPeng’s assisted-driving system adapting to Europe’s complex road environments, the company said.

Alongside its technology push, XPeng said it has long taken part in global autonomous-driving regulatory work. The company was recently elected secretary-general of the newly formed Task Force on Exchange of Scenario-Related Information (TF-ESRI) under the UN Economic Commission for Europe’s (UNECE) Working Party on Automated/Autonomous and Connected Vehicles (GRVA), which XPeng said makes it the first Chinese company to hold a secretary-general role within the UN’s core autonomous-driving regulatory framework. XPeng said it is also actively pursuing European market access certification, aiming to be among the first automakers globally to obtain it.

XPeng’s Global Expansion Beyond Cars

XPeng has now built eight major R&D centers and six major manufacturing bases worldwide, with a sales network covering 82 countries and regions and more than 1,283 stores. The company said this global coordination across R&D, manufacturing and sales lays the groundwork for continued global product development and deeper overseas localization and ecosystem cooperation, and that the G9L’s global launch both expands its global product lineup and marks a deepening of its globalization strategy.

As its global footprint deepens, XPeng said it is expanding from smart cars into more physical-world applications, centered on three areas, AI cars, robots and flying cars, all sharing the company’s self-developed physical AI technology base and a unified AI capability across its different smart devices.

In assisted and autonomous driving, XPeng’s second-generation VLA model now spans capabilities from L2 assisted driving to L4 autonomous driving, with the same model deployed in both mass-production vehicles and L4-level Robotaxis. XPeng’s Robotaxi business recently adopted the Chinese name “Xiaopeng Youyou,” with the English name “XPENG YOYO,” and launched a companion ride-hailing mini-app, gradually opening the service to public use as it moves into a new phase of public operation and commercialization. In humanoid robotics, XPeng said its robot production line is now officially running, marking a key step from R&D prototyping to production-line manufacturing as it moves toward scale production. XPeng also said its flying car has accumulated more than 7,000 orders and that the company has built what it describes as the world’s first flying-car factory with a planned annual capacity of 10,000 units, as it works to scale up production.

From its global product rollout to its broader physical AI businesses, XPeng said it is using technology innovation and its global operating system to accelerate physical AI toward large-scale global application, as it works toward becoming what it calls a “globally oriented physical AI company.”
