IM Motors Unveils the “NEXT·2028” Strategy; the All-New IM LS6 Set to Debut in September

Scheduled for a September 2026 China launch, the family SUV targets the RMB 200,000 segment with 800V charging.

IM Motors has announced the 2026 IM LS6, a new-generation electric family SUV scheduled to launch in China in September. The model is the first production vehicle associated with the company’s “NEXT·2028” strategy, which aims to bring advanced EV powertrain, steer-by-wire, and AI-assisted driving technology to a broader market.

The launch matters globally because Chinese automakers are increasingly introducing premium vehicle hardware in the RMB 200,000 segment, equivalent to roughly US$ 27,800 at RMB 7.2 per US$1. IM Motors has not yet disclosed the LS6’s final price or complete vehicle specifications.

NEO EV Powertrain and 800V Platform

The IM LS6 will use IM Motors’ next-generation NEO EV powertrain and battery system. The architecture upgrades the electric drive system, battery thermal management system, electrical and electronic architecture, and vehicle software.

Its NEO Hurricane motor series is claimed to improve CLTC combined electric-drive efficiency by 2.8% while reducing motor weight by 8%. The system will also use the Energy Efficiency Master Management System 3.0 to support lower energy consumption.

A full-domain 800V high-voltage platform is another major feature. IM Motors claims that the system can deliver full-power charging at more than 90% of the charging stations currently available in the market and replenish around 80% of the battery during a short coffee break.

The company has not disclosed the LS6’s battery capacity, cell chemistry, usable battery capacity, motor output, torque, drive configuration, DC fast-charging power, or charging time. Vehicle-to-Load capability has also not been confirmed.

No official range figure has been released. Any future CLTC rating should be treated as a China-market test result: real-world and comparable WLTP ranges are typically about 15-20% lower, while EPA figures may differ even more.

Aviation-Inspired Steer-by-Wire Chassis

The IM LS6 is being presented as part of IM Motors’ move toward an aviation-inspired safety architecture. The company says all future models under the “NEXT·2028” strategy will receive a full steer-by-wire chassis.

IM Motors claims a steering reliability of 10 FIT, triple-redundant safety, and a system response time of approximately 20 milliseconds. The company says this is more than 10 times faster than a human instinctive reaction.

The steer-by-wire system is also described as essential hardware for future Level 3 and Level 4 driving systems. However, the announcement does not confirm approval for autonomous driving for the LS6, so the technology should currently be categorized as a chassis-control and ADAS-enabling system.

IM Claw AI Agent and IM AD ZETA

The LS6 will support IM Claw, an AI Agent designed to handle multi-step tasks through natural-language commands. IM Motors says drivers will be able to request complex journeys involving multiple passenger pickups, additional stops, and real-time route changes with a single instruction.

The company is also developing IM AD ZETA, a physical-AI platform intended to work with Momenta’s world model. IM Motors claims that its model will use three to four times as many parameters as current mainstream solutions and offer a performance ceiling up to 20 times higher.

The system is designed to use Level 4 model capabilities to improve Level 2 driver assistance. Details on the ADAS SoC, computing power, cameras, radar, LiDAR, Urban NOA, High-Speed NOA, and automated parking remain unavailable.

Market Position and Potential Rivals

The IM LS6 will enter China’s crowded smart electric SUV market. Potential cross-shopping alternatives include the Tesla Model YXiaomi YU7Zeekr 7XNIO ES6 and NIO ONVO L60, although direct comparisons remain premature because IM Motors has not released the LS6’s dimensions, range or price.

Li Auto’s L6 and L7 may also attract similar family-SUV buyers, but they use extended-range electric powertrains rather than the IM LS6’s pure-electric system. They are therefore better viewed as broader cross-shopping alternatives than direct technical equivalents.

The LS6’s final competitiveness will depend on pricing, real-world efficiency, charging performance, cabin space and the reliability of its steer-by-wire and AI-assisted driving systems. Delivery dates, warranty coverage, and overseas market plans have not been announced.
